The Superintendent search for Reading Public Schools is coming to a final vote. After starting with four finalists, the process has narrowed to one remaining candidate.
The School Committee will meet Saturday, April 4, at 9:00 AM in the RMHS Library to deliberate and vote on Henry J. Turner. The meeting is open to the public, and public comment was just added to the agenda.
Reading Public Schools has made strong progress under Superintendent Milaschewski’s leadership, building trust, stability, and a continued focus on academic excellence and student success and safety. Many in our community have stressed the importance of protecting this momentum.
In recent days, residents have watched the interviews (see below), reviewed coverage, and discussed what they heard. As a result, concerns have emerged—based not only on online information, but also on the interviews themselves. With only one finalist remaining, many feel this decision deserves careful consideration before making a permanent appointment.

With only one finalist remaining, we are being asked to accept a consequential decision with limited choice. In recent days, we have watched the candidate interviews and raised questions about Mr. Turner’s alignment with Reading’s values and readiness to sustain the district’s culture of trust. When substantial concerns remain at this stage, it is reasonable to ask whether moving forward immediately is in the best interest of students and the community. I say no.”
